Basketball Recap: North Mecklenburg Extends Winning Streak to Nine

North Mecklenburg had won eight straight games and Lenise Joseph did her part to make it nine on Friday. The North Mecklenburg Vikings walked away with a 47-35 win over the Mallard Creek Mavericks thanks in part to Joseph, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 20 rebounds. Her evening made it 21 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Another player making a difference was Morgan Knox, who posted 13 points along with seven boards and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played.

Mallard Creek's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elle Stone, who earned 13 points in addition to four blocks and three steals, and My?Asia Young, who put up six points. The dominant performance gave Stone a new career-high in blocks.

North Mecklenburg has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.8 points per game. As for Mallard Creek, their loss ended a 20-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-3.

North Mecklenburg and Mallard Creek should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. North Mecklenburg will take on West Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 501 places (9 vs. 510). North Mecklenburg is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road. Meanwhile, Mallard Creek (ranked 11th) will meet Harding University (ranked 364th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Mecklenburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.1 points per game this season.
