Basketball Recap: Mason Stewart Key Part of a Team Effort in Polar Bears Win

Hardin Northern won the last time they faced Vanlue and things went their way on Monday too. The Hardin Northern Polar Bears secured a 51-46 W over the Vanlue Wildcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Polar Bears.

Hardin Northern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Stewart out in front who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Stewart a new career-high. Jake Cook also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

Vanlue lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Owen Roszman, who posted 14 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Landon Saltzman, who scored eight points along with nine boards and five assists.

Hardin Northern pushed their record up to 8-13 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 40% in those games and 24.5% outside of them. As for Vanlue, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 15 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 2-18 record this season.

Coming up, Hardin Northern will square off against Upper Scioto Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Vanlue, they have already played their next game, a 61-58 win against Cardinal Stritch on the 11th.
