Baseball Recap: Greencastle Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Greencastle barely beat North Putnam the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tiger Cubs were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars on Friday. The Tiger Cubs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.

Bryton Gregg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trevin Long, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Treyten Clark, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Greencastle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Putnam only posted an OBP of .250.

Greencastle's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for North Putnam, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Greencastle will head out to challenge Monrovia at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Putnam, they will be playing in front of their home fans against White River Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars are facing the Wolverines at the right time seeing as the Wolverines are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
