Atkins and Baptist Prep are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will welcome the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Atkins fell victim to Harmony Grove and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Cardinals, falling 8-0. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Baptist Prep waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Macy Childers made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Addison Highfill was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Kayla Midkiff was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Baptist Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Baptist Prep's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Atkins, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Atkins hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Baptist Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Atkins was able to grind out a solid win over Baptist Prep when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 6-1. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
