Basketball Recap: Perquimans Comes Up Short

Perquimans played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 61-40 to the Martin County Gators. The match marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Perquimans still got an impressive performance from Xavier Spellman, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyquan Riddick, who scored four points and three steals.

Jordan Matthewson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds for Martin County. Matthewson has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 14 times he's played. Kel'Javious Moore was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 22 rebounds.

Perquimans has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 16 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season. As for Martin County, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Perquimans does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Martin County, they will head out to face off against Washington County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Washington County will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Martin County surely won't give up without a fight.
