Preview: Juarez-Lincoln Huskies vs. Vela Sabercats

Juarez-Lincoln is 0-2 against Vela since October of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Juarez-Lincoln Huskies will look to defend their home field against the Vela Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. Juarez-Lincoln comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Thursday, Juarez-Lincoln took a serious blow against McAllen Memorial, falling 49-21.

Juarez-Lincoln's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Pedro Menchaca, who rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and John Menchaca who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Menchaca was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.

Meanwhile, Vela got the win against McAllen on Friday by a conclusive 42-20. The result was nothing new for Vela, who have now won four contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Jamal Polley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 217 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Bernabe Gonzalez, who picked up 97 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Juarez-Lincoln's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-0 Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial and 7-3 Palmview (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.3% over those games). Vela has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven matches, giving them a 6-1 record.

Juarez-Lincoln was taken down by Vela 69-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Juarez-Lincoln have more luck at home instead of on the road?
