Basketball Game Preview: Mercy McAuley Wolves vs. Archbishop Alter Knights

Mercy McAuley hasn't had much luck against Archbishop Alter recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Mercy McAuley Wolves will square off against the Archbishop Alter Knights at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mercy McAuley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They breezed past DePaul Cristo Rey to the tune of 59-13. The win was nothing new for the Wolves as they're now sitting on three straight.

Mercy McAuley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordyn Leary led the charge by going 6-for-11 on her way to 14 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Leary a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Haley Murphy, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Mercy McAuley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Alter humbled Madison with a 49-19 victory. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Mohawks are ranked 490th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Archbishop Alter has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.7 points. As for Mercy McAuley, their victory bumped their record up to 10-14.

Mercy McAuley took a serious blow against Archbishop Alter in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 58-30. Can Mercy McAuley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
