Volleyball Recap: Pius XI Catholic Beats Whitnall for Their Third Straight Win

Pius XI Catholic entered their tilt with Whitnall on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. The Popes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2021.

While Pius XI Catholic had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-20.

Rebecca Contreras paced Pius XI Catholic's offense, picking up ten kills. Contreras got some help from ShaRonn Kelly and her 13 assists. Finally, Mya Gencuski kept Pius XI Catholic's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Among those leading the charge was Lydia Johnson, who had four digs and four aces.

Pius XI Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Whitnall, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Pius XI Catholic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Pewaukee on the 23rd. As for Whitnall, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-1 win against Brown Deer on the 23rd.
