Baseball Recap: Hilbert Wolves vs. Kohler Blue Bombers

Hilbert extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 5-13. They lost 9-0 to the Kohler Blue Bombers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolves of the 1-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Hilbert saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maverick Breckheimer, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Breckheimer has hit this season.

As for Kohler, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Kohler's side, Aiden Oldenhoff was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Oldenhoff a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Kohler's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Nolan Kading was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Kohler is 2-1 when Kading posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ethan Klitzke, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilbert will challenge Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kohler, they will take on Mishicot at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
