Basketball Recap: Wakefield School Takes a Loss

After flying high against Fredericksburg Academy last Monday, Wakefield School came back down to earth. The Wakefield School Fighting Owls took a 29-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Randolph-Macon Academy Yellow Jackets on Thursday. The Fighting Owls were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Yellow Jackets earlier this season, when they won 53-11.

Despite the defeat, Wakefield School saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Finley Smith posted 11 points. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in January of 2024. Joelle Domfeh was another key player, putting up six points.

Randolph-Macon Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kay Perry out in front who had 12 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Perry has scored at least a third of Randolph-Macon Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Dleanna Hoosain, who earned seven points.

Wakefield School's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Randolph-Macon Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

As of now, neither Wakefield School nor Randolph-Macon Academy have any future games scheduled.
