Football Game Preview: Maloney Spartans vs. Fairfield Prep Jesuits

The Maloney Spartans will head out to challenge the Fairfield Prep Jesuits at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Maloney will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Friday, Maloney made easy work of Manchester and carried off a 37-14 victory. The Spartans pushed the score to 31-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Red Hawks cut but never quite recovered from.

Maloney's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Showerda, who threw for 248 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Devan Bacote helped Showerda out on the ground, rushing for 119 yards and a pair of TDs.

Maloney didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Manchester to a completion percentage of just 50%. Given Showerda's standout performance, it's clear the Red Hawks' secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Meanwhile, Fairfield Prep faced West Haven in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Jesuits skirted past the Blue Devils 17-14.

Maloney's record now sits at 4-0. As for Fairfield Prep, their record is now 4-1.
