Baseball Game Preview: St. James Sharks vs. Wando Warriors

St. James is 0-3 against Wando since March of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The St. James Sharks will head out on the road to take on the Wando Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

St. James fell victim to West Forsyth and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Titans, falling 8-0. The Sharks' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

St. James got a good showing from Frank Pepe, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Pepe gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Wando narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bishop England 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The team relied heavily on Jake DiMartino, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Max Whitmer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Wando and bumps their season record up to 3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for St. James, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

St. James suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Wando when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can St. James avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
