Basketball Preview: Phoenix Firebirds vs. Cazenovia Lakers
The Phoenix Firebirds will head out on the road to face off against the Cazenovia Lakers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cazenovia took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Phoenix, who comes in off a win.
Phoenix only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 31-point they dealt the Bearcats on Friday. Phoenix blew past the Bearcats 56-25 at home. Phoenix pushed the score to 41-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bearcats had little chance of recovering from.
Meanwhile, Cazenovia took a serious blow against the Eagles on Tuesday, falling 69-42. While losing is never fun, Cazenovia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 547th, while the Eagles are ranked 259th).
The win (which was Phoenix's third in a row) raised their record to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Cazenovia, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Phoenix beat the Lakers 50-40 in their previous matchup back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Phoenix since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
