Softball Recap: Lynchburg-Clay Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lynchburg-Clay can now relate to. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Peebles Indians on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly five runs.

Noel Barnhill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lynchburg-Clay saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Audrey Barry was another, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Lynchburg-Clay is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-8. As for Peebles, their win bumped their record up to 6-14.

Lynchburg-Clay didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-0 victory against Eastern on the 22nd. As for Peebles, they are taking a road trip to challenge Dawson-Bryant at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
