Baseball Recap: Socorro Takes a Loss

Socorro had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it four. They lost 12-6 to the Hatch Valley Bears. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bears this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-1 defeat on Saturday.

Cenyon Scarbrough was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Socorro's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Miguel Armendariz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Hatch Valley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-11. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

On Hatch Valley's side, NATHANIEL ALEXANDER looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave ALEXANDER a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, ALAN RUIZ was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was FRANKLIN WILLIAMS, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Socorro will square off against Cobre at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Hatch Valley, they will face off against Hot Springs at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bears are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
