Softball Recap: Streamwood Sabres vs. Elmwood Park Tigers
Streamwood had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it 12. They lost 16-0 to the Elmwood Park Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sabres of the 18-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.
As for Elmwood Park, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
For Elmwood Park's part, Abigail Jarosz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Jarosz has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Carole Akers was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Aubrey Serrano-LeFevour was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
Looking ahead, Streamwood will head out on the road to face off against Larkin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Royals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.05 runs per game on average), something the Sabres will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Elmwood Park, they will be playing at home against Latin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
