Football Game Preview: Modesto Christian Crusaders vs. Mariposa County Grizzlies

The Modesto Christian Crusaders will take on the Mariposa County Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Modesto Christian has given up an average of 40.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Modesto Christian is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Armijo on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Crusaders were dealt a 57-22 defeat at the hands of the Royals. The Crusaders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jameel Harrison, who picked up 94 receiving yards and one score. His longest reception was for an incredible 87 yards.

Meanwhile, Mariposa County strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 22-16 W against Gustine. While the Grizzlies didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-7), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 12 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Laten Butler, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from him.

Modesto Christian's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mariposa County, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
