Basketball Game Preview: Mayfield Panthers vs. Duanesburg Eagles

The Mayfield Panthers will square off against the Duanesburg Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mayfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50 points per game this season.

Mayfield took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 54-29 margin over Waterford-Halfmoon. The Panthers pushed the score to 41-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Fordians had little chance of recovering from.

Mayfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brianna Iannuzzi out in front who posted 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Iannuzzi a new career-high in blocks (three). Abigail Powers was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Duanesburg hadn't done well against Mekeel Christian Academy recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Duanesburg enjoyed a cozy 40-22 win over Mekeel Christian Academy.

Duanesburg now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Mayfield, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Mayfield suffered a grim 73-48 defeat to Duanesburg in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mayfield was down 48-27.
