Softball Recap: Kennedy Takes a Loss

Kennedy extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 7-12-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cypress Centurions. If the Fighting Irish were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Centurions when the teams met back in February of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Cypress, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

For Cypress' part, Chach Stamper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. Stamper has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tia Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kennedy will face off against Garden Grove at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Cypress, they will take on Pacifica at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Mariners have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
