Baseball Recap: Hancock's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Hancock took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Picayune, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks skirted past the Maroon Tide 4-2. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly two runs.

Ayden Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has become a key player for Hancock: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Hancock saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Sheilds, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win (which was Hancock's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-11. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Picayune, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-5 record this season.

Hancock will have a chance to go back-to-back against Picayune: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
