Baseball Recap: Algonac Comes Up Short

Algonac dropped their record down to 17-11 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Marine City Mariners by a score of 5-4. The Muskrats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mariners apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Marine City, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

For Marine City's part, Danny Vandevyver and Cooper Letson were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Vandevyver struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Letson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Vandevyver has posted since May 7th. At bat, Vandevyver went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Letson went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paul Muscat, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Emmet Hoski, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Algonac does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marine City, they will take on Lutheran Northwest on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mariners 3.7, the Crusaders 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
