Volleyball Recap: Cypress Bay Falls to St. Thomas Aquinas in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Cypress Bay unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 3-0 to the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders on Tuesday. The Lightning have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

The final score came out to 25-14, 25-8, 25-14.

Sophia Guzman paced Cypress Bay's offense, picking up eight kills. Guzman got some help from Erin Huang and her seven assists. Finally, Sara Hurtado and Julia Diaz kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked two attacks.

St. Thomas Aquinas had a senior duo take command as Hailey Trebbien had eight digs and seven aces and Adriana Medrano had 12 digs and three assists.

Cypress Bay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Pembroke Pines Charter on the 21st. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they will be taking part in a tournament against Calvary Christian at 12:10 p.m. on the 29th.
