Cocoa Beach falls despite strong effort from AJ Overdorf

The Cocoa Beach Minutemen suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were beaten by Cocoa 67-23. While losing is never fun, Cocoa Beach can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 438th, while Cocoa is ranked 156th).

When it comes to explaining why Cocoa Beach lost, one person who can't be blamed is AJ Overdorf. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points.

Cocoa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jonise Barcene, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barcene has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gianna Conklin-Jones, who scored 12 points along with two steals.

Cocoa Beach has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Cocoa, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

Cocoa Beach on the road again on Thursday and play against Space Coast at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. As for Cocoa, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. Edgewood is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
