Soccer Game Preview: Corning vs. Las Plumas

The Corning Cardinals will take on the Las Plumas Thunderbirds at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Corning is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3 goals per game this season.

Las Plumas will be up against a hot Corning team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Corning never let Live Oak get on the board and left with a 1-0 win last Thursday. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Lions are ranked 631st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Corning's one-goal win came courtesy of Ramses Figueroa, who's now up to two this season.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Las Plumas had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past Red Bluff 5-1 on Thursday. Considering the Thunderbirds have won eight matches by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Las Plumas' victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Corning, their win bumped their record up to 16-1.

Corning came out on top in a nail-biter against Las Plumas in their previous matchup last Tuesday, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Corning since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
