Volleyball Recap: Phelps Comes Up Short

If Phelps was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Mingo Central on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets lost 3-0 to the Pike County Central Hawks on Monday. The Hornets were not able to make up for their loss to the Hawks from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

While Phelps was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Pike County Central's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-21.

Aerionna Pigman paced Phelps' offense, picking up six kills. Pigman got some help from Cloey Bevins and her eight assists. Finally, Pigman was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Phelps' defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Pike County Central, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.

Phelps didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-1 loss against East Ridge on the 16th. As for Pike County Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Paintsville on the 16th.
