Basketball Recap: Poquoson Takes a Loss

Poquoson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 54-46 to the Bruton Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Islanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Panthers are ranked 144th).

Bruton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cy Gresham led the charge by going 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Johnathan Hopkins, who posted nine points.

Poquoson's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Bruton, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Poquoson has already played their next match, a 73-53 defeat against New Kent on the 17th. As for Bruton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-55 victory against Lafayette on the 17th.
