Baseball Game Preview: Covenant Christian Chargers vs. Unity Christian Crusaders

The Covenant Christian Chargers will challenge the Unity Christian Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Covenant Christian will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Saranac, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Chargers walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Redhawks on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by exactly three runs.

Ryan Kuiper and J.D. Schimmel did most of the damage at the plate: Kuiper went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Schimmel got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Ethan Looyenga, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Unity Christian posted their closest win since March 26th on Thursday. They skirted past Wayland 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Unity Christian's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Covenant Christian, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-16.

Covenant Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Unity Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2018, winning 4-0. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
