Basketball Recap: Hibriten Takes a Loss

Hibriten was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They took a 67-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 530th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 174th).

Bessemer City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Josiah Guyton out in front who went 5 for 8 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, Guyton is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristen Gordon, who posted 13 points and eight assists.

Hibriten's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Bessemer City, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Hibriten will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wilkes Central at 8:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Bessemer City, they and North Buncombe will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in North Buncombe's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
