Basketball Preview: Clover Blue Eagles vs. Fort Mill Yellow Jackets
Clover is 9-1 against the Yellow Jackets since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Clover Blue Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. Clover has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Clover pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-62 to Blythewood. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (59), Clover still had to take the loss.
Karis Alexander put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 19 points along with four steals and two blocks. She is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Powell, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Fort Mill has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were the victim of a tough 54-30 loss at the hands of Rock Hill on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Fort Mill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Bearcats are ranked sixth).
Clover's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Fort Mill, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.
Clover and the Yellow Jackets were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but the Blue Eagles came up empty-handed after a 46-45 loss. Can Clover avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
