Softball Game Preview: Kalkaska Blazers vs. Elk Rapids Elks

For the first time this season, Kalkaska will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to take on the Elk Rapids Elks at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Kalkaska came up short against Bellaire on Tuesday, falling 15-4. The Blazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Elk Rapids hadn't done well against St. Francis recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Elks blew past the Gladiators 11-2. The result was nothing new for the Elks, who have now won three games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Rhielynn Skrocki was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, Jillian Moazeni was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Brooke Fluty was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Elk Rapids kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Elk Rapids' record is now 3-1. As for Kalkaska, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
