Basketball Recap: Sickles Takes a Loss

Sickles and East Lake squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Sickles had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to the East Lake Eagles. The Gryphons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 75-64.

Despite the loss, Sickles still got an impressive performance from Ian Kyler, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 19 points along with five boards and three steals. That's the most points Kyler has posted since back in December of 2024. Chase Weismiller was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sickles smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Greg Samuels was a one-man wrecking crew for East Lake as he dropped a double-double with 22 points and 17 boards. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Cooper, who had 13 points.

Sickles' defeat dropped their record down to 19-9. As for East Lake, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

Sickles does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Lake, they will challenge Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Charlotte's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matches.
