Basketball Game Preview: Maryvale Prep Matador vs. Anthem Prep Eagles

The Maryvale Prep Matador will head out on the road to challenge the Anthem Prep Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Maryvale Prep's defense has only allowed 20.7 points per game this season, so Anthem Prep's offense will have their work cut out for them.

On Saturday, Maryvale Prep made easy work of Tonopah Valley and carried off a 41-21 victory. The Matador have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Anthem Prep beat Antelope 36-23 on Thursday.

Anthem Prep's win came from a few key players Maryvale Prep will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Abigail Purvis, who posted 16 points and eight rebounds. Those 16 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Hatfield, who put up seven points along with eight rebounds and six steals.

Maryvale Prep's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Anthem Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Maryvale Prep took their victory against Anthem Prep in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 39-18. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maryvale Prep since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
