The West Springfield Spartans will challenge the South County Stallions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Springfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
South County will be up against a hot West Springfield team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Spartans walked away with a 5-1 victory over Lake Braddock on Friday.
Elaina Primozic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kate Middendorf, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Coughlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, South County never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against Fairfax as they made off with a 15-0 win. The Stallions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Julia Niner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Ava Abromavage was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kelsey Wyllie was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
South County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
West Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for South County, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. West Springfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like South County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs.
