Baseball Recap: Cumberland Beavers vs. St. Croix Falls Saints
Cumberland had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-13 to make it five. They came up short against the St. Croix Falls Saints, falling 17-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 on Friday.
Cumberland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Calvin Cunningham, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for St. Croix Falls, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games.
On St. Croix Falls' side, Elliot Wilson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Wilson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Carter Ridgeway and Alex Hoff did most of the damage at the plate: Ridgeway went 5-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Hoff went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five hits gave Ridgeway a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brodie Allram, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Looking ahead, Cumberland will head out on the road to take on Ladysmith at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Beavers are facing the Lumberjacks at the right time seeing as the Lumberjacks are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for St. Croix Falls, they will venture away from home to face off against Barron at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
