Basketball Game Preview: Yuma Outlaws vs. Brush Beetdiggers

Yuma is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Brush is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Yuma Outlaws will host the Brush Beetdiggers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Yuma is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Simla just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 48-41 to the Cubs.

Despite the defeat, Yuma got top-tier performance from Bailey Nighswonger, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Nighswonger a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Sheffield, who posted 14 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Yuma smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Brush suffered their biggest loss since March 1, 2024 on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 68-27 loss at the hands of Merino. The contest marked the Beetdiggers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Yuma will need focus on slowing down Sidney Miller, one of several Brush players who made an impact when they last played. She had six points and six rebounds. Michelle Headley was another key player, putting up four points and 12 rebounds.

Yuma's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Brush, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2.

Everything came up roses for Yuma against Brush when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as the team secured a 64-23 win. Does Yuma have another victory up their sleeve, or will Brush turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
