Softball Game Preview: Hancock Eagles vs. Whitney Young Dolphins

Hancock hasn't had much luck against Whitney Young recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will take on the Dolphins at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

While Hancock is heading in to the game without a victory, things might be looking up considering their last match was the closest they've come to getting one. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Northside. On the bright side, the ten- run performance marked the Eagles' highest-scoring contest to date.

Alex Pinal and Alayna Bentley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pinal went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Bentley scored a run while going 3-for-4. That run marked the first that Pinal scored this season. Another player making a difference was Bella Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, Whitney Young fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Oak Park-River Forest on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 11-10.

Chiqui Vazquez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Itzel Jaime was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

Hancock's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Whitney Young, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4-1.

Hancock suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Whitney Young in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
