Softball Recap: Washington Takes a Loss

Washington had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-19 to make it five. They lost 11-1 to the Princeton Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hatchets of the 6-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Washington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Priesley Armes, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Princeton, they moved to 4-14 with that win, which also ended their 11-game losing streak. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Princeton's side, Brooklyn Turpin spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Turpin has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kimberlyn Wood and Kamryn Elliott did most of the damage at the plate: Wood went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Elliott got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Wood has posted since back in April. Kiera Edrington also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will challenge North Knox at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Princeton, they will square off against Evansville Harrison at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
