Softball Recap: Nederland's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

After flying high against Lee last Friday, Nederland came back down to earth. The Nederland Bulldogs took a 14-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Brook Bruins on Monday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bulldogs, who until this matchup were averaging 2.93 runs allowed.

Emmy Chambless made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Foster, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Chambless wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Nederland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Brook only managed six hits.

Nederland's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for West Brook, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-9.

Looking ahead, Nederland will venture away from home to face off against Sterling at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nederland's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Sterling's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West Brook, they will welcome Lee at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Brook is facing Lee at the right time seeing as Lee is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
