Baseball Recap: Marceline Takes a Loss

Marceline fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Palmyra on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. The Tigers have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Harrison Green spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marceline saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Gladbach, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run. Owen Thomas was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Marceline's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Palmyra, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-9.

Coincidentally, Marceline and Palmyra will both be playing Highland the next time they take the field. The Tigers will head out to face the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will play them later in the day, at 8:00 p.m.
