After a string of 16 wins, Liberty's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Independence Knights by a score of 3-2. The Redhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Liberty actually scored more points across those five sets (103-94), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 14-25, 15-25, 15-12.

Jaiden Harris paced Liberty's offense, picking up 27 kills. Harris got some help from Riley Wong and her 29 assists. Finally, Emersyn Fink kept Liberty's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Liberty's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 22-4. As for Independence, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Liberty will challenge rival Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Redhawks have won 11 straight at home dating back to last season, while the Warriors won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Meanwhile, Independence is set to square off against their familiar foe Frisco at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
