Basketball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 46-29 to the Andover Central Jaguars. If the Railroaders were looking for revenge after losing 64-32 to them when the teams met back in January of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

It was another big night for Taylin Tabor, who went 9 for 17 en route to 23 points for Andover Central. Tabor continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Shannon Shaw also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Andover Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will venture away from home to challenge Arkansas City on Tuesday. Arkansas City will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Newton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Andover Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Salina Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
