Soccer Recap: Del Norte Takes a Loss

On Saturday, Del Norte faced St. Augustine in a battle between two of the state's top teams. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the St. Augustine Saints who were credited with the win. The St. Augustine Saints got it done in the shootout by posting three goals to the Del Norte Nighthawks' one. It was the first time this season that the Nighthawks let down their fans at home.

Having lost for the first time this season, Del Norte fell to 15-1. As for St. Augustine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Del Norte and St. Augustine are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Del Norte will challenge JSerra Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (JSerra Catholic has won ten straight at home, while Del Norte won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for St. Augustine, they will host Santa Monica at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Monica's last four games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
