Softball Recap: Vallivue Takes Down Ranked Middleton

Vallivue faced Middleton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Vallivue narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Middleton 11-9. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly two runs.

Evonny Gonzales was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Kassotis, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Vallivue's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Middleton, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Looking ahead, Vallivue will be playing in front of their home fans against Caldwell at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caldwell has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.57 runs per game on average), something Vallivue will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Middleton, they will head out on the road to take on Capital at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Middleton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Capital has averaged an impressive 11.6 runs per game this season.
