Basketball Recap: Olivia Smith Key Part of Team Effort in Golden Wave Win

Tupelo won the last time they faced Pontotoc and things went their way on Friday too. The Golden Wave took down the Warriors 66-48.

Tupelo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Smith, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards. Another player making a difference was Reese Barbles, who posted 14 points and five assists.

Tupelo was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Pontotoc's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Galloway, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 15 points and five rebounds. Jazmine Cuellar was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

Tupelo's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Pontotoc, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 4-4.

Tupelo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-40 defeat against Starkville on the 9th. As for Pontotoc, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-30 win against Quitman on the 6th.
