Softball Recap: Brighton Wins Going Away Against Raleigh-Egypt

Brighton got themselves on the board against Raleigh-Egypt on Wednesday, but Raleigh-Egypt never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Pharaohs with a sharp 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Myla Gross made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Brighton let Braelynn Scott and Sydney Kirby run wild. Scott got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Kirby went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Kirby a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Kikawa, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Brighton's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-9-2. As for Raleigh-Egypt, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brighton will take on Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Raleigh-Egypt, they will head out to face off against Millington Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
