Volleyball Recap: Springfield Renaissance Comes Up Short

After flying high against Ware on Monday, Springfield Renaissance came back down to earth. Springfield Renaissance fell just short of the Smith Vo-Tech Vikings by a score of 3-2 on Friday. Springfield Renaissance was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Smith Vo-Tech earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Springfield Renaissance wouldn't go down easily and took Smith Vo-Tech into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 20-18.

Springfield Renaissance's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Smith Vo-Tech, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Springfield Renaissance and Smith Vo-Tech should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. Springfield Renaissance (ranked 105th) will meet Commerce (ranked 219th) at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Smith Vo-Tech will challenge Mohawk Trail Regional at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (84 vs. 255).
