Softball Game Preview: Redmond Mustangs vs. Liberty Patriots

Redmond is a perfect 5-0 against Liberty since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mustangs will host the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. Neither Redmond nor Liberty posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Redmond is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Washington's top teams: Issaquah, who was ranked third at the time (Redmond was ranked sixth). The Mustangs fell 4-1 to the Eagles on Friday. The Mustangs' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Redmond saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kati Cygan, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Liberty fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Eastlake on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 2-1.

Avery Huh spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Liberty dropped their record down to 9-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Redmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-3-1.

Redmond skirted past Liberty 2-1 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
