Volleyball Recap: Providence Pioneers vs. Mercy Jaguars
Providence lost against Mercy back in August of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Pioneers fell 3-1 to the Jaguars. The match marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
While Providence had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18.
Hadley Hasselbring paced Providence's offense, picking up 15 kills. Hasselbring got some help from Rylie Neal and her 31 assists. Aubrey Fromme controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Mercy found their leader in sophomore Emma Cronen, who had 18 digs and three aces. Cronen has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more digs the last nine times she's played.
Having lost for the first time this season, Providence fell to 4-1. As for Mercy, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Providence wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory on the 23rd. As for Mercy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Girls Prep on the 22nd.
