Baseball Recap: Rocky River Ravens vs. Lee Park Prep Knights

After flying high against Queen's Grant last Thursday, Rocky River came back down to earth. The Rocky River Ravens fell just short of the Lee Park Prep Knights by a score of 8-7 on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Rocky River of the 14-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Rah Washington was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Taybion Kinney, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a double.

Even though they lost, Rocky River was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with three doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lee Park Prep only hit no.

On Lee Park Prep's side, Cam Stikeleather made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks). Stikeleather was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen at least one in the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, Isaac Watkins was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. Justus Stikeleather was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two RBI.

Rocky River has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Lee Park Prep, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky River will take on Independence at 4:00 p.m. in Tuesday's first game. Rocky River is facing Independence at the right time seeing as Independence is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lee Park Prep, they will head out on the road to square off against South Pointe Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Pointe Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
