Preview: Elbert County Blue Devils vs. Commerce Tigers
After two games on the road, Elbert County is heading back home. The Elbert County Blue Devils and the Commerce Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
Elbert County suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. They were beaten by Oglethorpe County 70-42. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elbert County has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Commerce entered their tilt with Tallulah Falls with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Commerce came out on top against Tallulah Falls by a score of 57-49 on Thursday.
Commerce's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Sorrells, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Sorrells is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Peters, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Elbert County's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-14. As for Commerce, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11.
Elbert County strolled past Commerce when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 71-56. Does Elbert County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Commerce turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
